Having refreshed the cottages with new beds, sofas, TVs and other essentials (including home-sewn cushions!), we are now undertaking a more fundamental renovation: replacing all the old boilers, radiators and pipework, improving the lighting and electrics generally as well as installing a wood-burning stove in each cottage for that hygge feeling in the chillier months. We plan to use a Ground Source Heat Pump for heating and hot water: once we’ve renovated our farmhouse, we’ll be Gas and Oil-free! The next stage will be to investigate other electricity-generating possibilities such as solar panels and hydro.
In addition, Rigg Barn is subject to a full refurbishment with a completely new kitchen and an en-suite to the master bedroom.
Whilst bookings are open from Easter onwards, you may have spotted that we have blocked off the early part of the year to do this work.
We’ve also reserved The Old Byre as a standby later in the year when we ourselves may be kitchenless and bathroomless. Meanwhile, we’ve taken a few bookings in the other cottages with a note requesting to transfer to The Old Byre if it does become available … do drop us an email if you’d like us to do likewise for your booking.
