St. John’s-in-the-Vale is a scenic and peaceful valley in the heart of The English Lake District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. St. John’s-in-the-Vale extends from Threlkeld to Thirlmere, a few miles east of Keswick, nestling between the craggy slopes of the Helvellyn range and the lower but equally stunning ridge of High Rigg and Low Rigg.
Fornside is set back from the road, with direct private access to the fells. The Helvellyn range of mountains is directly behind the farm and we have magnificent views of Lonscale Fell, the slopes of Skiddaw and Blencathra.
Although our location is incredibly peaceful, within a ten minute drive you can find excellent country pubs and explore Keswick’s wide range of shops and restaurants, as well as a cinema, a renowned theatre and various galleries and museums.
As well as suggesting walking and trail running routes to help you make the most of the captivating landscape, we can offer guidance on a wide range of local activities and including golf, fishing, sailing, canoeing, horse riding, ghyll scrambling and climbing, as well as more cultural activities such as National Trust sites and Wordsworth places of interest.
