We are located in St. John’s-in-the-Vale, a dramatic yet very peaceful valley running from Threlkeld towards Thirlmere, about 5 miles south-east of Keswick. We are close to many of the attractions of the Lake District, yet our farm is a peaceful, rural place to stay and, for many of our guests, a destination in itself.
Fornside Farm is perfectly situated for those who wish to bag Wainwrights, explore the many local mountain-biking trails or wonderful road-cycling routes, compete in the Fred Whitton or either recce the Bob Graham Round or take on this incredible 24 hour challenge. (Fornside Farm is a great location for a Bob Graham recce as we are right underneath Leg 2 and the bus from Dam Road End will take you to Leg 1 or Leg 3.)
A short drive from, and equidistant between, Keswick’s famous Theatre by the Lake and Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage, Fornside is also a great spot for those with cultural interests to pursue.
GETTING HERE BY CAR
We are 15 miles from the M6. We are on the B5322, 3 miles south of the A66 at Threlkeld.
Fornside is set back some 200m from the road and is accessed by a private track. We have ample car parking adjacent to the cottages and an EV Charger for those already embracing the electric car future.
