Explore the surrounding picturesque area straight from the farm on foot! There’s walks for all abilities.
Walks from Fornside
We are located at the foot of the Helvellyn range with Great Dodd and Blencathra in close proximity. You can start walking in the hills from the back doorstep of Fornside Farm cottages. The mountains directly behind the farm and the valley with all its animals and meandering river in front keep you captivated for hours, truly beautiful.
We have created a private farm trail, exclusively for the use of our cottage guests, to help you enjoy the woods, fields, streams, wildlife and fantastic views. The valley remains a stronghold of the Red Squirrel and they regularly come and feed close to the cottages.
There are a number of easy small hills and fells to walk, ideally suited for families and novice hill walkers. For more information see Keswick Tourism’s series of recommended family walks around Keswick.
The Lake District National Park organise a programme of events including guided walks. For more information see their events calendar.
Whinlatter, England’s only mountain forest, offers mountains of walking trails with unrivalled views across the Lakes. There are miles of surfaced trails and tracks for you to explore. View a map of Walking Trails in Whinlatter.
Safety on the fells
Before heading out onto the fells we strongly advise that you fully prepare for unpredictable weather, and difficult terrain. See Keswick Tourism’s Stay Safe on the Fells guide.
Here are a few free walking guides for popular walking routes around Keswick. They can be downloaded and used straight away. Several fells such as Catbells and Castle Crag have been featured on the ITV series with Julia Bradbury, ‘Best Walks with a View’.
